The 4 costs of staying quiet
Are you someone who prefers to fly under the radar? Keep your head down? Avoid drawing attention?
Here are the 4 big costs of staying quiet:
1. Your health - staying quiet is literally bad for your physical and mental health. Holding in your thoughts and not speaking your truth activates a stress response in your body.
2. Your career - if you're not confidently expressing yourself, it will 100% affect your chances of getting leadership positions. In business, you’ll make less sales. Excellent communicators get better jobs and make more money - period.
3. Your children - the kids aren't listening to what you say - they're watching what you do. If you're conditioned to stay quiet, chances are so were your mother and grandmother, and unless you break this cycle, it will pass to your children.
4. Your legacy - perhaps worst of all, the cost of staying quiet could mean you live and die with regret. In Bronnie Ware's book "The Top 5 Regrets of the Dying," number 3 was "I wish I had the courage to express myself."
So let me ask you: What's staying quiet costing you? How could your life be different if you spoke up freely?
