How to give great feedback: The 4-step Feedback Framework

The fear of giving feedback is real. 

I don’t love giving feedback and I know my clients feel the same, but it’s essential to have these challenging conversations.

Let me outline a simple 4-step framework that makes the process of giving feedback less daunting and more effective.

  1. PRAISE – Start with something positive. 

  2. PROBLEM - Describe the problem you’re facing and talk about the situation, not the individual. 

  3. POSITIVE - Get positive agreement on the problem. 

  4. PLEDGE - Allow the person to self-select the actions required for the solution.
