Welcome back to That Voice Podcast.
We are up to season 13. Lucky 13.
And this season…. It’s a VOICEPRINT takeover.
Yes by the time this season ends, my first book VOICEPRINT will be in your hot little hands.
I’m am beyond excited, a little nervous, for you to read this because it’s not your average business personal development book. Mainly because it’s entertaining.
In the podcast break you may have seen on socials @sallyprosservoice, I’ve got the cover of the Voiceprint, I’ve done a photo shoot, I’ve booked the big Brisbane launch. It’s on December 7 – you have to buy the book presale to get an invite - and at the time of recoding this, we are up to second edits, I have 3 editors pouring over it and so while I wait with anticipation I thought I better get back into recording the podcast.
And for the opening episode of this season of That Voice Podcast, a season which is going get pretty crazy… with amazing guests and incredible stories and loads of good speaking tips … I wanted to start with a bit of grounding.
How to ground yourself before speaking. And you can use these techniques in your every day.
If you are centred and grounded – and know how to get yourself in that state, then you are unshakeable. You can respond to things with poise and grace not react and lose control of the moment.
Ther is a chapter in my book Voiceprint called Ground and Breathe, and this will be one you’ll have post it notes and dog ears in.
If you’re not grounded, your thoughts will race, you’ll start rambling, you’ll jump aboard the Tangent Train and in all this chaos your message is nowhere to be found.
Want your message to be found, you gotta ground.
I do love a coincidental rhyme.
And what are we talking about here physiologically, like what’s going on with your body? It’s your nervous system right? When you’re grounded it’s regulated, when you’re not it’s all over the shop. And if you speak from that fight or flight response, you’re only worried about survival, not about impact. You’re focused on your own wellbeing not what experience the audience is having. You actually make the audience feel nervous and not very safe with you. They don’t trust you.
You’re all tense, so your voice is shaky and weak and possibly up in that high pitch that only dogs and small children can hear.
So not being grounded is a recipe for speaking disaster.
Now, the formula for how to ground is the formula I share in my mini course The Magnetic Voice Formula. The link is in the show notes, you get a code for being a podcast listener, it takes it down to less the 30 US dollars, honestly go and do this course. That’s where you’ll integrate the changes to actually make it happen.
And we go through the 3 B’s. The foundation of voice, the foundation of confidence and the easiest method to ground yourself.
The first B is belief. You need to calm and ground your thoughts.
If you’re telling yourself –
I’m nervous, I can’t do this, what will they think, I’m not prepared, that is the soundtrack for chaos. These are the beliefs that send you into a spin.
Rather, I’m grounded. I’m centred. I know why I’m speaking. I’m rooted to my purpose.
Now if only flipping beliefs was as flipping simple as listening to a podcast.
Unfortunately our beliefs can be embedded deep. So if you are struggling to wrangle your negative inner voices, then work with a coach. This is what we’re experienced in. I am helping people every day clear the beliefs that block them from being a great speaker.
And you really can’t put a price on the way that changes your life.
So the next one is B for Body.
For grounding we want to focus on the root chakra. The energetic centre down near the base of our spine, that’s where safety, security, foundation lives.
And if in your relationships or work you’re not feeling safe and secure, you’re not feeling on solid ground – then that is of course going to impact your ability to feel grounded while speaking.
And one of the fastest ways to activate your root chakra is to physically ground. Plant your feet into the floor, rock back and forth a little, take your shoes off if you need. Rock your hips side to side even a couple of little jumps. Rub your thighs bring that energy down in your body.
And if you want to hear more about activating your vocal channel via the chakras, we have a great masterclass inside Soul Speakers and you can also go back and listen to episode 200 – which chakra is holding your voice back.
And now our third B is of course that beautiful fuel for our voice – BREATH.
You cannot feel grounded if you are not breathing.
Breathe into the ground, breathe through your feet, imagine your buttocks are your lungs – just don’t breathe out of them – that’s an impression you’d rather not leave.
Your breath is your life force, and if you want to feel more connected to the ground, breathe in that direction.
And that is how you ground yourself before speaking.
Think grounded thoughts, physically ground your body and breathe low, down into your root chakra. And will all that energy grounded you are ready to spring into action when you speak, and peope won’t just hear you they will feel you, because your voice is coming from such a primal, deep, grounded place – rooted in purpose.
Go and get my mini-course The Magnetic Voice Formula it has all the exercises to integrate the three B’s – it’s free if you’re in Soul Speakers – there’s a code in the show notes if you want to buy it separately – and at the checkout there’s also my public speaking chakra meditation, which is a brilliant way to build the energy through your vocal channel – starting with the root chakra.
It's great to be back. I’m feeling grounded and ready to go for a big book launch season of That Voice Podcast – I’ll see you next week with an amazing guest.
