267. Position your voice for connection
One of the biggest myths in voice work is that you need to lower your pitch to sound more confident or credible. Nope! The real magic lies in where your voice is positioned in your body.
I’m sharing how to position your voice for connection, not perfection — so people don’t just hear you, they feel you.
We’ll explore the three key vibration zones in your body — your head, heart, and solar plexus — and how to use each one intentionally to align your voice with your message.
Quick Summary:
Head – For thinking, imagining, and visioning.
Heart – For feeling, storytelling, and mission.
Solar Plexus – For motivating and calls to action.
Because when it comes to connection, it's not about PITCH it's about POSITION!

Forget pitch, focus on position. This is our focus for today's episode of That Voice Print Podcast. Position your voice for connection.
And for complete transparency, this is the sixth time I am recording this podcast. I've had so many technical problems this week. Fingers crossed, lucky six. I don't even know if that's a thing, but this is what we're going for.
Where you produce your sound from in your body matters. Where you position your voice matters. If you are constantly stuck up in your head or speaking through your nose or in the back of your throat, at best, you're not going to make a very good connection, and at worst, people will switch off because it's so bloody annoying!
I hear people all the time say, Oh, well, the content of that podcast might have been okay, but I couldn't stand their voice. I just couldn't get past the voice. When we speak, we want to be music to people's ears, not the metaphoric fingernails down the chalkboard. And you may be speaking on your default, which is like hitting the same piano key over and over and over, and that may not be the best voice to rise to meet the occasion, to meet the intention of what you're saying. So today we're going to expand that range, expand that repertoire so you've got a larger choice with your voice and as you'll see through the content, wow, what a difference it makes when you can align those vibrations, when you can align the position in the body with the intention of your words. Because people don't just hear what you say, they feel what you say.
So today, I'm gonna take you through some ways you can position your voice throughout your vocal channel so you can get all of that-- into alignment. Now, a podcast is fantastic. You are going to listen to this and probably have your mind blown because every time I share this in my workshops or with clients one-on-one, they're like, wow, Sal, I have never thought about my voice like this.
If you want to put it into practice, get along to a Speak Up for Your Business workshop. We do this in the workshops. Brisbane. Last week was so amazing. We in Perth on November 21, and then we are in Sydney and Melbourne. I've announced dates for early next year, so keep an eye out for those.
Or join Soul Speakers, because we also work on it in soul speakers. Now of course, I also write about it in my book Voice Print, How to Leave a Lasting Impression Every Time You Speak.
And if you are listening to this podcast, especially considering it's the sixth time I've recorded this, if you are listening to this and you have not pre-ordered Voice Print the book and or the Oracle card deck. Oh, I can feel the daggers coming at me through the speaker. Please jump on and pre-order it and come along to the launch party in Brisbane on December 7th at Blackbird. By the time this goes live, it may be sold out, so just check the link and try your luck.
So we are beginning today of course, with a reading from Voice Print. We are hitting Chapter Eight V for Vibrations, and we're going in about halfway through the chapter:
Energetically, our voice vibrates up and down the chakra channel. I believe this is a much easier way to visualize your voice and in turn, change your sound. For example, you might've heard you need to lower the pitch of your voice to be taken seriously, especially if you're a woman.
This confusing advice can prompt you to push your voice to the back of your throat chamber, producing that pompous fake sound that comes with excessive pharyngeal throat resonance. When your voice is hiding in the back of the body, you are energetically hiding your true self, which is why it sounds put on.
Elizabeth Holmes adopted this kind of voice in her con job with startup Theranos. It's a rabbit hole worth diving into on a rainy day. But the short version is that Elizabeth Holmes is an American biotech entrepreneur who was convicted of fraud after she claimed her company revolutionized blood testing. She spoke in an unusually deep baritone voice during most of her public appearances. In a 2023 New York Times interview, Elizabeth spoke in her natural higher pitched voice and confirmed the low voice was a facade.
Don't get me wrong, there is incredible value in lowering the pitch of your voice for certain scenarios as long as you know how to do it authentically.
Forget pitch, focus on position. That is in bold. In the book, it's less about lowering your voice and more about expanding your vocal range. It's about having greater access to parts of the vocal channel that best match the meaning of what you're saying. That's the definition of speaking in alignment. Let's explore three key vibration areas along your vocal channel, your head, your heart, and your solar plexus, the upper abdomen.
I will leave the reading there. Of course, in the book I go through what I'm taking you through today. There's a bit more detail in the book, and if you're a visual person, then it's great to be reading it. If you're visual and auditory, then read the book and listen to the audio book at the same time so you can hear the examples.
Vibrations, follow the breath where the breath flows, vibrations follow. So if you are not breathing deep into your body, you won't be able to do this.
The first part of accessing our vocal channel is allowing the breath to flow through, and that's a reminder. It's probably about time I did another episode about breathing. It is so fundamental.
Let's take a breath in now and pray this recording is working okay. Breath in and breath out, manifesting the tech gods to come and help me today.
So we're gonna start with the head. Let's breathe into the top of your head like that crown chakra space. And imagine you are, you've got like a fountain out the top of your head, okay? Oh gosh, I bet you this microphone's picking up those sounds from my laptop. Oh, let's carry on.
So as you breathe in, you're thinking, and as you breathe out, the sound comes on the out breath. Okay, so the sound comes on the out breath. At no point are you holding your breath, and the sound we're going to make is E.
E or hi. Hi. Could be easier. It's like it's floating at the top of your head like a fountain. Breath in. Hi. Hey, yay. Okay,
I hear many voices stuck up in this area. It's the overthinking and the overanalyzing and the overstressing. All of this can lodge your voice up in your head, disconnecting it from the rest of your body. People who are constantly speaking in their head are not very effective. The words might be okay, but there's a disconnect in the body. We're wanting to position our voice for connection. That's what this episode is about.
So we want to vibrate up in the head, not all the time, of course, we do want to use it though, when we want our audience to think something. Think about original concepts, ideas. You introduce phrases like, imagine picture this. Visualize planning, visioning, brainstorming.
How weird would it be if somebody came in and said, Okay, let's brainstorm. Ah, disconnect. Okay, so wondering, thinking, pondering, dreaming, is all up in this head space. Let's try another area of the channel. Now, come down to your heart. Put your hand on your heart space. A nice breath into the chest cavity. Oh, the beautiful energy center of love and compassion. And on the out breath, we're going to say, ha.
Oh, feels so good. And this is where we want to vibrate, and we want our audience to feel something, emotional stories, examples. The example I share in the book is I realized my life's mission was to help people find their inner fire and channel it through their soul stirring voice. This is where we want to share our purpose from our why, our mission. It shows we care.
If you are ever in a position to welcome anybody, whether it be to a room, to a new course, to a party, and you don't use your heart, this is what it sounds like.
Welcome. It's so great to have you here!
Doesn't sound connected.
Welcome. Great to have you here from the heart.
We feel it, you know, heart to heart. Use that space. Now we're going even deeper. We're going to our soul plexus. We're going to our solar plexus, the seat of our self-belief, the seat of our self-esteem.
Breathe into that upper abdomen area. It's just below the sternum, just below the bra if you choose to wear one. And our phrase out is, yeah, yeah. You can do this with a little hand gesture like you're giving somebody a body shot. Okay?
Yeah, yeah. Advanced hair. Yeah, yeah. If you're Australian and of my vintage, you might be thinking of advanced hair. Yeah. Yeah. So this is where we want to be speaking. This is where we want to be vibrating. When we'd like our audience to do something. It's where the calls to action live. It's our great motivator.

Send me that email. Sounds like a good idea.
Send me that email. Sounds like you care about the email.
Send me that email. Whoa. All of a sudden we're connecting on the plane of action.
Okay, amazing. So we've got the head, the heart, the solar plexus. Think, feel. Do I have an idea? It's close to my heart and I know you can do this. Okay?
When you can use your channel, wow, you can connect and speak in alignment in a way that is so connecting because people forget they're hearing someone speak and they're feeling the vibrations of your voice. So if you've been thinking about working on your voice and speaking skills and you know this is going to make a difference for your career, for your business, then get in touch. Let's do this.
