284. Your brand starts with your voice
I know it might sound crazy, but I spent the first 7 years in business without an official brand.
Waiting until everything is “perfect” is holding you back.
If you’ve been overthinking your message, delaying posting, or telling yourself you’ll start “once it’s all ready”… this is your sign.
Because it’s more important that you post than what you post.
Your voice builds trust.
Your voice creates connection.
Your voice is how people remember you.
And in a world of AI-generated content, your human voice has never been more powerful.

Hello, welcome back to That Voice Podcast.
Did you notice? We have new podcast artwork.
Yep—a bit of a refresh.
And actually, for the first time in seven years, I have an official brand.
I’m also evolving my positioning slightly—from voice and public speaking coach to voice and communications advisor, working with high performers who are ready to own their voice.
This feels much more aligned with the clients I currently have, and the people I love working with—helping them sound as compelling as they are capable.
I work with people who already have the stage—whether that’s the boardroom, team meetings, podcasts, media interviews, panels, or the physical conference stage—not just people who want the stage.
So go and check out the website. It’s a new look, very streamlined. It’s also brand new, so let me know if you spot any glitches.
And yes—new branding and an official brand kit is exciting. I’m so impressed by the work of Jason Knight, who made the magic happen.
But here’s the thing: my business has been successful for the last seven years without an official brand.
My original logo was whipped up while I was still in my corporate job. I had a loose colour and font plan, but really—it was just me playing around in Canva.
So if you’re holding back because you don’t have a logo or a polished brand yet, let me be proof: you don’t need any of that to get started.
Your brand starts with your voice.
The title of this episode:
This is the little voice telling you what you already know… or perhaps a whole new way of looking at it.
If you have a business to grow, a cause to advocate for, or you simply want to future-proof yourself in the age of AI by putting a stake in your sound—owning your organic human voice—then listen in.
If people can’t hear you, they can’t know you—let alone trust you.
It’s more important that you post than what you post.
It’s about leaving your voiceprint.
People remember voices they hear far more than words they read. Voices activate the limbic system—the emotional centre of the brain—and we know people decide on emotion and justify with logic.
So it’s a no-brainer: what is your business audibility?
Where can people hear you?
“But Sal, I don’t know what to say. I haven’t finished my branding. I’m not clear on my message. I need to get that right before I post anything… right?”
Wrong.
While you’re waiting for the perfect message and the perfect delivery, the people who need to hear you are either listening to someone else—or they’re still out there, waiting to connect with your voice.
Either way, you’re not making the impact you could be.
“I’ll get to it… but first I need to fix the website, then clarify my message, then clear my inbox, then clear my emotional blocks…”
Let’s call it what it is: a never-ending list of excuses.
There will always be a reason.
And most of the time, it’s not about the messaging—it’s a deeper block around being seen and heard. That’s the piece to untangle if you truly want to make your mark.
Sharing your voice is not a destination—it’s a habit.
It’s not something you slot into your to-do list like a recipe. If you’re not in the habit of using your voice now, you won’t magically start once everything is “ready.”
It’s okay to be seen trying.
It’s okay to be a beginner.
Yes, it takes courage. It might feel uncomfortable. It might even be bad at first.
But that’s exactly why most people don’t do it.
And it’s also why success comes to those who do—especially those who do it consistently.
Another story I hear:
“If I start, I don’t want to stop… so I won’t start until I know I can keep it up.”
Here’s the shift: decide your frequency, and back yourself to stick to it.
Follow the plan, not the mood.
Do I always feel like recording this podcast every week? Honestly—no. Lately it’s been tough. I’ve felt run down. Perimenopause is no joke. Some days I’m just trying to get through without completely irrational bouts of crying.
But I’m not breaking my commitment.
Showing up consistently is a vote of confidence in yourself. You can trust I’ll be here—and that’s a reflection of me trusting myself.
So get your voiceprint on the record.
There are a million gurus out there telling you what to post: introduce yourself, share your why, talk about something funny that happened.
But the key is this: make it voice-to-camera.
One of my highest-converting videos was a makeup haul.
Don’t over-engineer it.
That you post is more important than what you post.
Because people remember that they saw and heard you more than what you actually said.
We leave people with feelings, not just facts.
And in a world of AI-generated content, signalling that you are a real human has never been more valuable.
Your voice reveals so much—who you are, where you’re from, your energy, your authenticity.
People can’t know if they resonate with you unless they can actually hear you.
That’s why voice work matters.
When you learn to access the full range of your voice, you can align your intention with your delivery—and people feel that.
And finally—this is the part that’s hard to grasp until you experience it:
You get clarity through doing.
My message and style have evolved so much over the past seven years—and that evolution only happened because I kept creating.
You find your voice by using your voice.
A document outlining your “why,” your avatar, your messaging—it won’t build the habit nearly as effectively as simply speaking will.
I hope this episode has inspired you to take action and get your voice out there.
Let it remind you: your voice is the starting point of your brand. It’s the middle point too. It’s never the end point.
It’s a practice. A habit. A choice.
It doesn’t sit inside your to-do list—it sits alongside it.
Your voiceprint is the foundation everything else is built on.
So post that video today.
Tag me—I promise I’ll be there to support you.
