251. How to simplify your message
In this episode, I’m diving into a big question that landed in the podcast DMs:
“How do I simplify my message? I feel like I get muddled and go off on tangents.”
Been there? Me too.
As a business owner of nearly 7 years, I know how quickly your message can become a tangled web of ideas. So today I’m sharing three ways to bring it back to clarity:
💡 In This Episode:
✨ Why writing your “quotable quotes” is a game-changer for clarity
🎯 How to zoom in to stand out in a world full of noise
🗣 Why speaking it out loud is your fastest path to a clear message
📚 Behind-the-scenes of writing VOICEPRINT (and why pre-orders matter so much!)

Hello welcome back to That VOICEPRINT podcast.
Yes this season will see the release of my book called VOICEPRINT – How to leave a lasting impression every time you speak. So this season is a VOICEPRINT takeover.
And guess what? Exciting news!
You can PRE-ORDER the book right NOW!
Now this is my first book so I’m learning a lot about being an author and the publishing industry, and here’s the thing.
Waiting until the book is released to buy it… doesn’t really help me.
Because the pre-orders tell the industry what the demand is for the book and ensures there’s plenty of stock on the shelves and in the warehouses for when shipping starts.
So if you want to ensure you’ll get a copy on the first print run, and you want to help me out.
PLEASE pre-order one, ten, 100 copies of Voiceprint – and AMAZON is the place that really dictates the market apparently so AMAZON is the preferred place to buy.
There’s the book, and I also made a matching Oracle Card Deck called VOICEPRINT CODES. So if you’re a card person, or do facilitating, please pre-order the card deck too!
AND if you send me proof of purchase, to any of my socials or my email… I will send you an exclusive voice note of me reading the first chapter of the book.
PLUS you’ll get the chance to come to the big BRISBANE BOOK LAUNCH PARTY on Dec 7th. This is the only launch event I’m doing, and it’s gonna be a great party. So if you want to be with all the cool kids at the stunning Blackbird on the river, then send me your proof of pre-order so I can send you the link to buy tickets.
All the details to buy VOICEPRINT are in the show notes.
Now the inspiration for episode 251 – HOW TO SIMPLIFY YOUR MESSAGE came from the inbox of our thatvoicepodcast Instagram page. I love reading your DM’s. An amazing listener asked, how do I simplify my message? I feel like I get muddled and go off on tangents.. and hey as a business owner myself who’s been in biz for almost 7 years now. It can get higgeldy-piggeldy and as things go on I need to remind myself to come back to the simple throughline of my message.
And there are a couple of techniques I use, I’ll share with you today.
So whether you have a business or an idea or something you want to advocate for… this
The first one is – write your coffee table quote book.
Imagine a gorgeous hard cover book, one of those ones you have on display. And this book represents your brand.
On each page there is a single quote and through the book it captures the essence of your message.
What are your quotes? Start to build the book. And keep it to 2 lines max. So some of mine are
“Your voice matters.”
“When you speak you leave a unique voiceprint.”
“To inspire others you must first inspire yourself.”
“Your physical voice is a megaphone for your inner voice.”
And in VOICEPRINT I have a lot of these quotes to accompany the start of each chapter. So that’s another way you could think of it. Is what is the quote that accompanies different chapters of your work, different arms of what you do.
And this is where metaphors are gold for simplifying your message. So I have a chapter in VOICEPRINT called Access All Areas and the quote is “your voice is your access-all-areas pass.”
So it’s a bit like a soundbite. So I was a journalist for many years and in TV we’re looking for a 5-8 second snippet. So when I was on the other side of the microphone as a spokesperson for a water company I knew I need to simplify my message into that time frame, into that soundbite. A lot goes on behind the scenes to bring you fresh, clean water.
This is what the coffee table book quote book is handy for – phrases to grab attention and get to the point fast.
The second thing is ZOOM IN TO STAND OUT.
As someone who has lots of interests, likes variety and covers a wide range of topics under the voice umbrella. I have to work at this one. That’s why I have Soul Speakers the way it is, as a comprehensive end-to-end everything you need, one stop shop for the mindset work, the voice work, the content work and the performance work. I put everything in there, the resource library is my Netflix for speaking and that’s what people like about Soul Speakers is you can get what you need and it’s really holistic, very comprehensive.
When it comes to messaging having too much means people often hear nothing.
So ZOOM IN. When I was planning my book VOICEPRINT I knew I wanted to cover VOICE, HOW things are said, not so much what to say. So I had to build that scaffold and stick to it, even though of course I work in the content space, I write keynote speeches for goodness sake, but voiceprint is not a speechwriting book. And I knew I needed to zoom in if I want it to stand out.
Apply this to your messaging. ZOOM IN. What is the thing.
So you’ve got your quotable quotes, you’ve zoomed in.
And finally, you need to speak it out aloud. Honestly the best way to simplify and clarify your message is to sound it out. Get on social media, get on podcasts, talk to yourself in the shower, trust me, as the words tumble out of your mouth you will be able to hear what works, hear what’s clunky, learn what resonates, iterate the next time …
I guarantee any creator or brand you see and hear out there with really top class spoken messaging, it wasn’t like that from day dot. They’ve been out there having conversations, jumping on podcasts, speaking on social media. Brittany Saunders is a great example from Fayt the label. She’s been creating on line since she was 14 years old.
You simplify your message through speaking.
And if you’re holding back from getting your voice out there because your messaging isn’t as crystal clear as you’d like it… you got things the wrong way around.
And if there’s a block for you to speak, then get in touch. Come and join Soul Speakers and I’ve just introduced a new 60 minute session for new clients and you can put the investment into that session towards another one of my programs if you’d like to continue. I want to make it as easy as possible, a no-brainer for you to step forward and say hell yeah I’m ready to invest in my voice and in just an hour we’ll get you a quick win, and you can see if this is something right for you.
So there you have it. How do you simplify your message? Write your quotable quotes, Zoom in and start speaking out loud. Let people hear your beautiful voice. And your next video can be sharing how you pre-ordered my book VOICEPRINT… honestly if you get any value from this podcast, you will love the book.
And don’t forget to send me the receipt so you get all the bonuses! Including the invite to the big book launch party in Brisbane on Dec 7th.
